In 2007, the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce began work on the Mount Vernon Chamber Foundation with the goal to improve the connection between businesses in Skagit County and the kids in Skagit County schools. We believe that a stronger connection will help students to see the amazing opportunities available to them and motivate them to work hard to succeed. Graduation rates and grades will improve, and students will see that excellent career opportunities exist for them right here in Skagit County. Businesses will feel more involved with the schools and their future workforce.
The Business Education Partnership is a web-based interface between businesses and students and educators. This interface makes it possible for students to quickly and easily find opportunities like job shadows, internships, mentors, and even jobs. Educators can recruit guest speakers from the business world and schedule field trips. The businesses and the schools have one point of contact, the Mount Vernon Chamber of Commerce, making it simple to coordinate.
